Everywhere you look these days, you might notice that what's old is new again! Whether it's the revival of the fanny pack or those grandma recipes you know and love, some of the most popular trends of the moment are those that bring a sense of nostalgia. And the same is true for home décor, too.
Vintage-inspired furniture is always making a comeback in one form or another, but the most recent revival to catch people's attention is anything but ordinary. Let's hear it for: spindle furniture.
The traditional technique is rooted in history—and it can bring a bit of farmhouse elegance to any space in your home! Back in the 17th century, spindle furniture (also known as bobbin or spool) was recognized for its lathe-turned details that looked like round stacked beads or wooden balls. It was often prized for its intricate craftsmanship and unique character—just a few of the many reasons why it's popular today!
Though the playful spindle design can be used for the legs of tables or chairs, it's also a stunning addition to bed frames, lamps, stools, and more. Just look at Ree Drummond's latest furniture collection, for example. The spindle feature is highlighted in many of the new pieces, including her accent chair, bed frame, and the dining room chairs that both her and Ladd love.
"One word: obsessed," Ree says about the design. And who can blame her? The rustic-meets-elevated look is the perfect balance of classic and contemporary.
If you're looking to try out the spindle style yourself, there are tons of ways to incorporate it, both big and small. Aside from larger furniture pieces, you can also hang a bobbin mirror or picture frame on your wall or try a set of spindle candlesticks on your fireplace mantle. Talk about adding instant charm!
